Description

For many years, citizens of Waukesha were thrilled to visit the glass-paneled water dome located at the Waukesha Water Utility headquarters at Delafield and North Streets. Colored lights played on the shooting water, which was aerated in the dome.
In the 1980’s, the Water Utility decided that the aeration was no longer needed. Plans were announced to demolish the beloved landmark.

A Commission was formed with the purpose of restoring the dome for display only. The commissioners were David Kopp, John Inzeo, Brian Barrett, Donald Ladd, Fred Portz Jr,. Thomas Rickert, Lewis Ameel, Robert Uchner, George DeQuardo, and George H. Gunn.

Once the dome was dismantled and stored at the municipal garage, it was discovered that the metal frame was severely corroded and the glass was unusable. The cost of restoration was prohibitive, and the project was abandoned.

This T-shirt was produced and sold by the Commission to help fund the restoration. Years later, Mayor Carol Lombardi contributed funds to recreate a smaller version of the water dome in Theodora Youmans Park.
