Subject

Description
In 1997, the Waukesha Landmarks Commission, the Waukesha 1834 Club, Halquist Stone Co. and Alderman Ralph North contributed money towards the restoration of Hobo Spring in Frame Park. A city crew under the direction of former Landmarks Commission Chairman Debi Hankel, city planner David Kopp and John Schoenknecht supervised the restoration. The city crew consisted of Duane Kind, Bruce Wery, Brian Gluth, Richard Bradetich, James Stanton, and Kenneth Muss.
The project involved completely rebuilding the spring itself as well as the surrounding basin, wall and steps. A new drainage pipe was installed to keep the water flowing.
At the dedication ceremony, held later that autumn, several people spoke of the history and importance of the restoration. Mayor Carol Opel cut the ribbon, and Ralph North removed his socks and shoes and danced in the cool, crisp water.
These T-shirts were designed by John Schoenknect and presented to all of the donors and workers who helped restore Hobo Spring.
Donor: John Schoenknecht
Adopt an Artifact Sponsor: Bill & Jodi Huelsman
