Description
The exact years this basketball jersey was used are unknown, but from the construction and materials, it appears to be from the 1950’s. It represents the many successful Waukesha High School Suburban Conference basketball teams of the time. The 1954 team was featured in the film Rebound by Norman Schley.
The shirt has an interesting history. Before the construction of Waukesha West High School, the ninth grade classes combined with the middle schools. Central campus became a middle school. The plan was known as 6-3-3: 1st - 6th grades, 7th-9th grades, and 10th - 12th grades. Butler Middle School did not have uniforms and equipment for 9th grade teams. The 1950’s Waukesha High School jerseys were sent from Central Campus to Butler for the 9th grade basketball team. However, the jerseys were deemed “too old.” They were set on a loading dock to be discarded, but fortunately this jersey was rescued and donated to the museum.
