Description
Edward Boehmke is seen here alongside the hat badge and a button from his Postal Unform. Boehmke worked as a mail carrier for 24 years, retiring in 1941. His time as a mail carrier was only interrupted by his service in World War I.
In 1913 the first federally owned post office was built in the city. Situated in the triangle formed by Broadway and South, it is one of the best examples of Classic Revival architecture in the city.The building is known as the Rotunda today, and served as the post office from 1914 - 1962
The current post office opened in 1962, providing additional space for bulk mail processing in addition to first class mail services.
